FULANI HERDSMEN STRIKES AGAIN AT NDIAGU ATTAKWU, AKEGBE UGWU IN NKANU WEST

The story

From the information gathered it was recovered that suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded Ndiagu Attakwu, Akegbe Ugwu in Nkanu west L.G.A of Enugu state at about 2:00am on Thursday 25th, 2016, killed a seminarian and injured some  members of Ogbodo Nwarum household.


Among those assaulted was a six months ago pregnant woman Mrs Nwarum whose stomach was slashed open, a 26 years ago Nwafor lazarus who was a seminarian at the catholic spiritan international school of theology (CSIST) Attakwu, who just finished his apostlic work at the st patrick catholic church Amugu, being also a tenant at Ogbodo Nwarum household was killed. The killed seminarian, lt. Nwafor lazarus was said to be attacked when this blood-thirsty Fulani herdsmen entered his room through the ceiling and unlocked the door for the rest, who came in and butchered him. Some of those injured was taken to the Mother of Christ and the others to parklane teaching hospitals respectively in critical conditions.

What was the course of the attack?

According to a resident, he said that the cows of the Fulani herdsmen was grazing on their cultivation so in other to alert everyone, the women and children strikes their local gong, but the sound  it generated caused those cows to run away in a disorganised manner. But those herdsmen never took it lightly but promised to attack them at night which they later fulfilled.

The governor of Enugu state rt.hon.Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the catholic bishop of Enugu diocese, His lordship most Rv.Dr.Calistus Onaga, some members of the governor's cabinet and security personnels visited the site of the ugly incident where they met villagers crying and wailing on top of their voice.


The governor in his speech while addressing the people said " l recieved the report of an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen this morning (25th August) during which a seminarian was killed and four others injured and are in hospital at the moment. "I hasten to condemn this act in its entirety, for the government cannot tolerate the destruction of the property and lives by  any group under any guise. I have already summoned meeting of Fulani community and security agencies in the state to review the situation and determine appropriate action to be taken. "It is unfortunate that this incident is coming just days after the commission of inquiry set up to look into the killing at Nimbo submitted an interim report. I wish to, on behalf of the state government, express our sympathy to the community. "I assure them that government will do everything to ensure that the culprit are apprehended and brought to book. Government will cater for those in the hospital, I want to reassure the citizens in the state of government unwavering efforts to ensure that security of lives and property is maintained in every corner of the state.comment:vanguard.


Bishop onaga laments over the incident


The Catholic bishop of Enugu diocese His lordship most.Rev.Dr Calistus Onaga lamented seriously on the insecurity facing Enugu state and called for a peaceful co-existence of the Fulanis and the good people of Enugu.


Suspected Fulani herdsman apprehended



The Enugu state police command has released a statement, according to the statement a suspect who claimed to be 20 years old revealed that he was from Guasau in Zamfara state, and came to Enugu recently for cattle rearing purposes but has reared none till now. The state commissioner of police Emmanuel Ojukwu has assured the people that he would commence a serious investigation to make sure that the culprits are found and will be brought to justice.
